Any great painting must rely primarily on form and structure.  No other painting focuses on these fundamentals as much as a still life.  An artist has to work with spacial relationships with simple objects which will carry the painting or ruin it.  Gregory has always enjoyed creating still life paintings.  His masters thesis was composed of 10 historical western still lifes.  They can be seen at http://www.gregorysievers.com They were much tighter and realistic as a younger artist explored modeling and light through form.
