Impasto
This may be the strongest element of Matthew Sievers` work. Firstly, it makes the light reflect in a particular way, giving the artist additional control over the play of light on the painting. Secondly, it can add expressiveness to the painting, the viewer being able to notice the strength and bold strokes applied by the artist. Third, impasto can push a painting into a three dimensional sculptural rendering.
Matthew has combined an Impasto technique with his own stylized flair to bring something all his own to the art world. These deep textures are often sculpted more than painted, jumping off the canvas and capturing the imagination. Layering oils to play with light and form Matthew has brought a fresh new look into the oil painting saga.
