Still Drying , this painting of poppies (left- obviously) was painted by Matthew and will be hung in Sievers Gallery this Thursday night at the Art Walk at an entry price.  Framed in an amazing copper Lenan frame with asymmetrical lines it is truly a piece you must see in person.  “Through the Branches” was painted with the most brilliant colors during a demonstration at the Celebration of Fine Art show in Scottsdale and will also be in the gallery these next few weeks.  Other new works can be seen at his personal website www.matthew-sievers.com .  The poppies were painted with a gold under coat that react with the eye as a gem cut and set on a ring, once placed in one of these immaculate frames.  The aspens however are the exact opposite, painted on a deep venetian red that ties the color pallet and makes the thick oils sing on a low light. Lenan has truly mastered the art of wood work from the pedestals found throughout Sievers Gallery to his colorful works of art. These paintings are acrylic on metal plate over wood panel. Iridescent and matte pigments are layered in veiled rhythms to capture the fluidity of light, and the rhythm in vision. Each layer both conceals and reveals what lies beneath.

Lenan's art is predicated upon three basic tenets: abstraction, the combinaion of  materials how they play against each other and the iconic character of painting. In abstraction, the artist is presented with a language which is at once universal and personal. Abstract painting enables the artist to speak to the heart of any viewer.
